Do The Math... hand painted floor pattern

Some of the most impactful changes you can make in your home revolve around paint. There are highly visible common surfaces in an interior where homeowners consistently use artistic and decorative painting to solve design dilemmas. These include walls, ceilings, cabinets, and\or architectural details. But there was one surface in this grand foyer that was just begging to be addressed. That was the floor!

The Design Process:

A painted floor can be a statement piece, a dramatic burst, an anchoring detail, or just a way to incorporate a creative touch to a room. Upon entering this traditional home you are greeted with these beautiful and unique hand painted floors. The elegant pattern around the perimeter grounds the space and makes the floor more visually interesting. It makes a statement and sets the tone for the elegant details throughout the rest of the home.

We began with a raw hardwood floor. Our inspiration came from the graceful scroll work on the banister and front door. At first glance, this seemed like a straight forward painted design. But a closer look revealed the intricacy and precision that would be required to create the seamless pattern around the curves and fit perfectly within the architectural details. Needless to say, it was a mathematical challenge. Once the design was painted, the floors were stained and sealed to maintain the color consistency of the hardwoods that extend throughout the rest of the home.
