Heavy Metal...Faux Industrial Steel Doors

Have you been to the new Moxy Hotel in Midtown Atlanta? It is a boutique-hotel concept with the next-Gen traveler in mind. Toni Stoeckl of Distinctive Select Service Brands, Marriott International explained, “With Moxy, we threw out the hotel rulebook to create a bold new hotel experience geared toward guests who are looking for shareable, experiential moments when they travel.”

The Design Process:

Inspired by its location in the epicenter of the arts, the design began with a simple, yet sophisticated palette of mixed metals that reflect the urban city feeling of Atlanta. They contracted with DAC Art Consulting to develop standout art and design elements that would be consistent with their branding. One of these was the set of interior fire doors, a design opportunity that is often overlooked. DAC recognized that they were a blank canvas just crying for an artistic touch. They requested a dimensional faux finish on the doors that would make them appear as authentic steel to compliment the branding of the hotel. The applied texture and aged metallic finish creates depth and the visual weight of heavy metal to otherwise ordinary doors.

The appearance of these heavy metal doors creates an artistic focal point offering a meeting point between the architecture and furnishings. They blend perfectly with the other sculptural elements that reflect an urban contemporary environment.
