Easy On The Eyes...Bathroom Cabinet Refinishing

So often when we think of “updating”, we have visions of changing to clean lines and contemporary materials. But what happens when you must remain in keeping with the traditional style throughout the rest of the home?

The Design Process:

Interior designer, Jo Rabaut, created a fresh look in this master bath by manipulating the architecture and carefully selecting materials that would honor the traditional style. Jo explained, “Creating a restful space begins with lightening up the palette and reducing the contrast of the color tones. Our inspiration came from the window treatments . . . a timeless fabric that was already used in the adjoining master bedroom.”

The focus was on muting the color tones. Refinishing the cabinetry added to the restful appearance. A faux glazing technique was added to emphasize the façade and create a “not so new” feeling. The delicate freestanding tub was nestled within the bay window and surrounded by millwork that echoed the consistent line of cabinetry. Variegated patterns within the tile add dimension to this subtle color palette.

This master bathroom remodel blends the comfort and warmth of traditional design with restful colors of a more contemporary style that is easy on the eyes.
