Project Runway… plaster vent hood
Ventilation above the stove is critical in any kitchen, but, it also provides a BIG opportunity for design. A stunning custom vent hood can make a major impression in the kitchen and transform this functional element into a sculptural focal point infusing a sense of artistry and uniqueness that becomes the jewel of the kitchen.

The Design Process:
Notice how all the perimeter surfaces are solid white. This insures a light and airy feeling. It creates a non-descript outline that doesn’t distract from the expansive island countertop running directly through the center. It presents as a dramatic visual runway effect that leads your eye through this long kitchen. At the end of the runway, the artistic custom concrete vent hood strikes a pose.
Applying a faux concrete plaster technique added an organic element that turned the hood into a sculptural feature and elevated the ambiance of the kitchen. Its subtle texture, matte finish and cool demeanor offer a unique juxtaposition against the solid surfaces of the surroundings. The bold gold accent line has the effect of the perfect jewelry on a simple little black dress.
The runway design of this kitchen makes this island serve as the centerpiece of this fashion event. Stretching gracefully above the entire stove area, this faux concrete vent hood creates a visually striking focal point and “fashionable” experience without breaking the elegant lines and sleek appeal of the kitchen.
